When experimenting with brushes, be sure to make use of the scratchpad on the right (the > button on the right side of the brush settings window, if it's not already toggled) and the stroke at the top of the brush settings window will show you what the stroke looks like from light pressure to heavy pressure. In a nutshell, the / curve has a smooth transition, the S curve spends more time being really big and really small, and you can remove either of the middle control points in the S curve to make a brush that gets small easily but not large, or vice versa. This brush kit created by Marts-Art is a great toolkit for digital artists who are just starting out to learn and for the intermediate digital artist to speed. You can also adjust the pressure/size curve for any brush if you feel like the brush gets small or large too quickly compared to the pressure applied, or if it doesn't change size quickly enough. That's what I used for the trees in my most recent painting, though I did rely a bit on the erase-mode toggle (the e key). The brush that video uses is more or less just the Basic-5 Size brush.
